This half day course regulated qualification focuses on the importance of maintaining health and safety and ensuring that employee actions reduce risks in the workplace. It is intended for learners working in any workplace environment, including retail, manufacturing, food premises and the care environment.
It is also suitable for those who are returning to work or starting work for the first time. Learners achieving this qualification will gain a sound introduction to all aspects of health and safety including legislation, fire procedures, chemical safety, manual handling and personal protective equipment.
It is ideal as an introduction to general health and safety for any environment.
HOW IS THIS QUALIFICATION STRUCTURED?
This qualification is made up of one mandatory unit for which learners must successfully complete the assessment.
This is a half day course.
WHO NEEDS THIS QUALIFICATION?
Everyone entering the workplace for the first time – either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment – and those starting a new job, as part of their induction programme.
HOW IS THIS QUALIFICATION ASSESSED?
This qualification is assessed through a 30 minute, 15-question, multiple-choice examination. Successful learners must answer at least 10 out of the 15 questions correctly.
WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?
It is a legal requirement for employers to provide health and safety training to employees. The HABC Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace provides a starting point from which more detailed health and safety training (e.g. Level 2) or job-specific training can follow.

The QCF Level 2 Award in Food Safety course is designed for food handlers, who come into direct contact with food for human consumption, whether intended for sale or not.
It sets out the elementary concepts of hazard identification and control and reinforces the importance of hygienic practices as control measures.
Successful candidates will achieve:
HABC LEVEL 2 AWARD IN FOOD SAFETY IN CATERING (QCF)
This qualification is assessed through a 30-question multiple-choice examination.
The duration of the examination is 1 hour. Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 20 out of 30.
